Full-time, tenure track faculty position.

Starting Salary Range: $55,703 to $85,443 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9.

Cabrillo College provides a generous doctoral stipend of $3,719 per year for eligible faculty.

Benefits: Cabrillo College currently provides a generous benefit stipend for employees plus dependents that employees apply towards benefit selections for medical, dental, life, and short-term/long-term disability insurance. Depending on health plan selections, in many cases full-time employee net out-of-pocket for benefit premiums may be $0 or otherwise relatively low.

Days Per Year: Faculty enjoy a 175-day work schedule.

Beginning Date: Position(s) scheduled to begin Monday, August 19, 2019, pending continued funding and Governing Board ratification. Assignments may include distance education courses, may be scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and may be scheduled at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the College: Situated on Monterey Bay in the county of Santa Cruz, California, Cabrillo College is one of the most highly regarded community colleges in the state for its success in the area of transfer and career education, and currently serves over 11,400 students each semester. About the Department:

The Accounting/Finance department is part of the Business, Accounting, and Real Estate cluster, which is part of the Business, English, and Language Arts (BELA) Division. The Accounting/Finance department offers an Associate in Science degree which can be earned by completing the core certificate courses and General Education requirements.

In addition, the department offers the following Certificates of Achievement: Accounting, CPA Exam preparation, Tax Preparation and Payroll Accounting, and Skills Certificates in Accounting, and Financial Management. These certificates are designed to qualify students for entry-level employment and/or career advancement.

The department offers various degree and transferable courses in an online or hybrid (in person and online) format in addition to regular lecture format which typically include an online component.

About the Position:

The full-time faculty member will be required to teach classes each semester in the accounting and/or finance areas including but not limited to courses in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, Fraud Examination, Corporate Taxation, Income Tax, Bookkeeping, and QuickBooks. These classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online or hybrid format. In addition, faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development, program planning, and serve on college governance committees.

Examples of Duties

• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences. Expertise in teaching Financial/Managerial and Tax Accounting.
• Establish and communicate clear learning outcomes for learning activities and be able to assess and achieve Learning Outcomes.
• Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
• Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment using use relevant technology to support instruction
• Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
• Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments and provide appropriate feedback on work
• Perform certain supportive duties such as providing student encouragement, counseling students with academic problems and redirecting these students to the appropriate institutional resources available.
• Participate in department meetings
• Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
• Completion of required annual trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:

• Master's in accounting or business administration (MBA) with accounting concentration OR
• Bachelor's in business with accounting emphasis or business administration with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis AND a Master's in business (MBA), business administration, business education, economics, taxation, finance OR
• Bachelor's in accounting or business administration with accounting concentration AND a CPA license (this is an alternative qualification for this position pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1) OR
• The equivalent OR
• A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Accounting

Equivalency

Candidates without the specified degrees listed above must complete and submit an Application for Equivalency Determination. Additionally, candidates must provide documentation, as part of this application process, sufficient to convince the committee that the candidate possesses the equivalent of these minimum qualifications, including the depth and breadth of discipline knowledge plus general education.

Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:

• Recent successful teaching experience in accounting in a higher-education institution.
• Demonstrated ability to employ innovative teaching techniques and methodologies.
• Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogical teaching techniques and effective ways for engaging students who are historically under-represented and under-served.
• Recent successful experience teaching accounting online or as a hybrid class at the college level.
• Expertise and interest in teaching the full spectrum of community college accounting courses.
• Experience developing and marketing new programs to diverse populations.
